Scam Alert – Netflix Scam

On 10th November 2019, Cybertrace analysts were made aware of an email scam which claims to be from Netflix. The email states that your automatic payment couldn’t process, therefore you need to click the link in the email to update your payment details.

DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. We cannot stress this enough. Even clicking the link may actually put you at risk, even if you don’t supply payment details.

These types of scams are very, very common now and any links inside emails should be seriously considered before being clicked.

If you look at the actual email scam shown here, it is clear it is a scam as there are spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. On this occasion, the scam is not a very good one and spellcheck may have helped these scammers make it more believable. If you’re suspicious of any email, then carefully read its content and look for any inconsistencies.

Statistics shared by Julia Carr-Catzel in an SBS News article show that almost 1 in every 3 Australians were affected by cyber crime in 2018. With this alarming increase in cases, it is more important than ever to understand how these scams work and to stay cyber-safe.
